Bombay High Court grants Chintan’s plea for pillow

The Bombay high court on Thursday asked Thane prison authorities to provide bedsheet and pillow to Chintan Upadhyay, arrested for his alleged involvement in his wife Hema and her lawyer Harish Bhambha

The Bombay high court on Thursday asked Thane prison authorities to provide bedsheet and pillow to Chintan Upadhyay, arrested for his alleged involvement in his wife Hema and her lawyer Harish Bhambhani’s murder.

The division bench of justices R.V. More and V.L. Achiliya issued directions to Thane jail authorities while hearing an application filed by Chintan seeking bed to sleep in his cell. Chintan, in his petition had submitted that he is unable to sleep on the floor in the prison due to spondylitis.

The artist in his petition claimed that he is suffering from spondylitis and because he is being made to sleep on the floor the pain is aggravating. No medical help is provided to him by the prison authorities, Chintan claimed.

The bench asked the authorities to provide him blanket, bedsheet and a pillow. The jail authorities on Thursday told a division bench headed by justice More that a bed, blanket and pillow have been provided to Chintan, and if in future he requires such facilities then he may request the jail superintendent.

Chintan was arrested on December 28, last year in connection with the murder of his estranged wife Hema and Bhambhani.

Four other accused in the murder case — Pradip Rajbhar, Vijay Rajbhar, Shivkumar Rajbhar and Azaad Rajbhar — are also currently lodged in judicial custody.
