The Bombay high court has asked BMC and railway authorities to approach the Army (Mumbai zone) and seek its opinion on building a temporary foot-over-bridge near Sandhurst Road station after demolition of Hancock bridge. The court has also directed the civic body to increase frequency of BEST buses in the area so that pedestrians do not have to cross railway tracks regularly.
A bench of Justice Shantanu Khemkar and Justice M.S. Karnik was hearing a petition seeking an alternative source for pedestrians who crossed the railway tracks on a regular basis after Hancock Bridge was demolished.
Earlier the court had appointed an expert committee to inspect the area. On Monday, when the committee submitted its report, the court asked BMC and railway authorities to approach Army officers of the Mumbai zone and seek their opinion about building the temporary bridge. The court directed BMC and railway authorities to submit their progress report on July 27.
