Bombay HC seeks information on compensation
The Bombay high court on Friday has asked the state government if it had given compensation to bomb blast victims according to the revised resolution on the same.

The Bombay high court on Friday has asked the state government if it had given compensation to bomb blast victims according to the revised resolution on the same. The court also asked the state to file its reply within two weeks.
A division bench of Justice V.M. Kanade and Justice Swapana Joshi was hearing a public interest litigation filed by advocate Rajeshwar Panchal.
According to the petition, on August 13, 2014, another bench of the high court ordered the state as well as the central government that under their existing policy, the compensation paid to a bomb blast victim was not adequate. The court, therefore, directed the state and the central government to consider enhancing the compensation amount given to blast victims.
The petitioner further stated that, on November 2014, the state government filed an affidavit in the high court and said it had already enhanced the compensation amount given to blast victims in 2008. The state government also showed the GR issued on December 1, 2008.
According to the new GR, the state government had increased compensation from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
The petitioner also alleged that the central government did not file any affidavit and, therefore, “we don’t know whether they have taken any decision regarding enhancing the compensation”.
On Friday, Mr Panchal brought to the notice of the court that after 2008, there were two bomb blasts in Maharashtra — one in Zaveri Bazar and the second at the German Bakery in Pune.
Thirty-six people had died and 72 were injured in these two blasts, but the state government did not provide details on whether the compensation was paid to the victims according to the new GR. Considering this, the court has directed the state government to file an affidavit on whether the victims were paid the revised compensation.
