The ongoing Bombay high court’s stay order banning approval for new constructions in the city could leave the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA)’s recent attempt to sell its plot at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) in limbo as the stay order binds the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) from giving Intimation of Disapproval (IOD) or commencement certificate (CC) for new construction proposals in the city.

The MMRDA on Wednesday published an advertisement inviting bidders for the auctioning for its 12,486 square metres plot located at G-Block of BKC, with a built-up area of 50,000 square metre.

The MMRDA plans to sell the plot at the rate of Rs 2.95 lakh per square metre, which means base price quotations of Rs 1,475 crore.

However, the Bombay high court on February 29 directed the BMC permission to any new construction of commercial or residential building in the city till all the rules of solid waste management are complied with.

These restrictions are not applicable for proposals of hospitals, dispensaries, educational institutions and redevelopment projects of the Maharashtra Area and Development Authority (Mhada) and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA).
