Bombay HC grants interim relief to Pankaj Bhujbal
The Bombay high court on Thursday granted interim protection from arrest to senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal’s son Pankaj Bhujbal till August 8 in a money laundering case.
The Bombay high court on Thursday granted interim protection from arrest to senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal’s son Pankaj Bhujbal till August 8 in a money laundering case. It further posted his pre-arrest bail application for hearing after four days when around 20 different applications filed by various people, also facing charges of money laundering in the same case, will be heard.
Pankaj’s lawyer told Justice P.N. Deshmukh that around 20 applications filed by other co-accused in the case had been posted for hearing on August 8 and requested the court keep Pankaj’s anticipatory bail application for hearing on the same day. The lawyer also requested the court to grant Pankaj interim protection from arrest till then.
NCP legislator Pankaj had filed pre-arrest bail application in the high court after a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court had issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him. The PMLA court had issued NBW against Pankaj in connection with a complaint registered with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged Maharashtra Sadan scam. ED has already arrested Chhagan Bhujbal and his nephew Sameer in March in this case and both are in judicial custody. Though senior Bhujbal had sought bail on medical grounds, both the trial and the high court had rejected his bail application.
