Bombay HC gives Pankaj Bhujbal interim relief

The Bombay high court on Friday granted interim relief to Pankaj Bhujbal from arrest till May 25 in connection with a money laundering case against him.

The Bombay high court on Friday granted interim relief to Pankaj Bhujbal from arrest till May 25 in connection with a money laundering case against him.

Justice Ajay Gadkari of the high court stayed the execution of a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against Bhujbal, on a petition filed by him, till May 25. The plea of the 10 other accused in the case, challenging NBWs and seeking anticipatory bail, would also be heard on that day.

The PMLA court issued the NBW against Pankaj and others on April 27 after taking cognisance of the chargesheet filed by Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with Maharashtra Sadan scam and some other cases.

The ED had on March 30 filed an 11,500-page chargesheet naming Chhagan Bhujbal, Pankaj, nephew Sameer, corporates like DB Realty, Balwa group of companies, Neelkamal Realtors and Builders Private Limited, Neelkamal Central Apartment LLP and Kakade Infrastructure.

Pankaj had moved the Supreme Court seeking stay on the NBW claiming proper procedure was not followed as the court was supposed to issue summons first. However, the SC asked Pankaj to first seek recourse from the high court and he is free to approach the SC if the HC rejects his application.
