The body of one of the pilots recovered from the wreckage of the Pawan Hans helicopter that crashed into the Arabian Sea last week has been identified as that of captain T.K. Guha.

The body of one of the pilots recovered from the wreckage of the Pawan Hans helicopter that crashed into the Arabian Sea last week has been identified as that of captain T.K. Guha. The search is on for the other missing pilot, a Coast Guard official said on Tuesday.

According to sources, the black box of the aircraft has also been recovered and was handed over to the officials of civil aviation regulator, who will further carry out the investigation.

Confirming this, the official spokesperson of Coast Guard said, “Captain Guha’s body was brought to the shore this morning at around 8.30 am and sent for a post-mortem.”

A member of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) team investigating the crash said that a body was found in the cockpit with the seatbelt on. Captain Guha was operating the helicopter whereas captain Samuel was supervising him. “The body, which has been recovered, was found in the right side of helicopter so we concluded it to be captain Guha’s,” said the official.

Commenting on, this senior police inspector Balkrishna Gurav of Yellow Gate police station said, “We have recovered a few things like keys, mobile phone, pan card, ATM card, credit card and debit card from the trouser pocket of the body, and all these belongs to Capt. Guha. His daughter and son-in-law have also identified the body.”

A mobile phone belonging to Capt. Samuel was also recovered from the wreckage, the official added.

According to sources from Pawan Hans, the body will be taken to Pawan Hans office on Wednesday around 11.30 am after which the final rites will be performed at the cremation ground in Juhu.
