After its crackdown on nullah desilting and road work contractors, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has now turned its attention on contractors who maintain public parking spaces for the civic body, monitor the parking in the area and pay civic body dues collected from the parking fees. In two separate cases of BMC crackdowns on civic pay and park contractors, the BMC first filed an FIR with the Ramabai Amberdkar Marg police against two pay-and-park contractors who submitted cheques to the BMC that had bounced. Subsequently, these two contractors have failed to pay the BMC dues amounting over Rs 2 crore each.

The two contractor companies identified in the issue are Raj Enterprises, which now owes the BMC money amounting to Rs 1.49 crore, while the other contractor company has been identified as Global Power Systems, which owes the civic body Rs 2.38 crore. Following the FIR, the BMC has also blacklisted both these contractors. “They may be allowed to bid in other instances if they fit the qualification criteria of the respective tenders,” said a civic official who did not wish to be named.

Meanwhile, the BMC has lodged another FIR with the Nariman Point police station against two persons who were caught giving fake BMC receipts to vehicle owners for parking at the Jamnalal Bajaj Marg parking space. This is actually a free parking area, and the BMC does not charge any fee. The Nariman Point police has arrested the two persons. Another person has been arrested for the same offence from Vinay K Shah Marg.
