The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Wednesday arrested two clerks working at the BMC office in Kanjurmarg for allegedly blackmailing their colleague. The work of the accused entailed marking the attendance of municipal workers. However, the accused marked one of their colleagues absent on many days despite him being present on those days with a pen whose ink could be erased.

The accused, identified as Kanhayalal Rathod (49) and Sandip More (34), work with the solid waste management department at S ward in Kanjurmarg. The accused were assigned the duty of maintaining the register of attendance, and they had a grudge against the complainant.

Both accused would give the complainant a Magic Frixion Pilot Pen to sign his attendance. Later, they would erase it after the complainant went away from the place and, the next day, show him that he had not signed his attendance.

An ACB official said, “The complainant first thought he might have forgotten to sign but the incident happened thrice in a week. At that time, the accused asked him to give Rs 3,000 if he wanted to get back his attendance.”

An ACB official said, “The complainant realised something was wrong and decided to keep a tab on the accused’s activities. At that time, he came to know about the Frixion Pilot Pen. He informed our officials and told us about the accused asking for a bribe. We laid a trap on Wednesday and arrested both the accused red-handed while taking the bribe.”
