BMC to impose 25 per cent more water cuts in city on May 10-11
Brace yourself for more water cuts next week.
Brace yourself for more water cuts next week. Even as the city is already reeling under 20 per cent water cuts, Mumbaikars will have to face 25 per cent more water cuts on May 10-11 owing to the repair works to be undertaken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tansa (West) main.
According to civic officials, the water cuts will be imposed for 36 hours from 11 am on May 10 and would be completed by 11 pm on May 11 for the repair works, which the civic hydraulic department would undertake on 1,800 mm diameter Tansa (West) trunk main at Gandhi Nagar, Pokhran Road no.2, Thane. The areas which are situated at the fag end of the distribution zone, elevated areas and residents on upper floors having direct supply in city area will be more affected owing to low pressure, said civic officials.
The BMC supplies 3,750 million litres of water daily to the city. With the rains playing truant last monsoon, the civic body has imposed 20 per cent water cuts on residential users and 50 per cent on commercial and industrial consumers such as malls, star hotels, factories and stadiums. This has resulted in water supply being curtailed to only 3,250 mld to the city. Water to civic swimming pools has also been disconnected.
The civic officials have requested Mumbaikars to store the sufficient amount of water and use water judiciously. As of May 6 the total quantum of water in the seven lakes was 2.78 lakh million litre while on the same day last year it was 3.34 lakh million litres.
