BMC has grand master plan for its students
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to provide training in chess to its school students with the help of Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA).
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to provide training in chess to its school students with the help of Maharashtra Chess Association (MCA). According to civic officials, the MCA has given a proposal to provide paid chess training to students in municipal schools. Accordingly, the civic body has decided to train selected students from 17 municipal schools in chess.
“The BMC aims to produce chess grand masters by increasing mental and emotional quotient of students along with teaching them school curriculum. The chess increases several virtues like mathematical and statistical capacity, decision making, problem solving capacity, concentration, discipline, confidence, patience, perseverance, competitiveness and sporting behaviour,” said a civic official.
The BMC will spend Rs 4.76 lakh for imparting chess training to municipal students. The cost expected to provide chess training by MCA certified coach to 30-40 students in a single municipal school along with lectures is around Rs 23,000. In addition to this, Rs 5,000 will be charged for providing things like CIS initiative, chess kit, magnetic demonstration board, course book etc. It will bear the cost for the year 2015-16 and from next year, it will be borne through the corporate social responsibility, said the official. The MCA has trained 9,500 students from 120 schools in chess in 22 state districts and has also produced 120 expert coaches. In 2015-16, the association aims to train 5,000 students from 1,000 schools across the state, said civic officials.
