Following the massive fire that gutted large portions of Metro House building in Colaba, BMC has asked the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) to conduct a structural audit of the building at the earliest. The civic body has decided not to allow anyone to enter the building till it receives the report.

Assistant municipal commissioner of ‘A’ ward, Kiran Dighavkar, said, “The building has developed cracks due to the fire and we want to ensure that the structure is in a stable condition. Hence, we have asked Mhada to carry out structural audit and submit the report at the earliest. Till then, we will not allow anyone to enter the building.”

The building comes under Mhada and is owned by Metro House. Mhada officials have decided to send notice to Metro House to carry out structural audit of the building. “We will be issuing notice to Metro House on Saturday to carry out structural audit,” said a Mhada official.

Cooling operations continued well into Friday with the Mumbai fire brigade closing down the route towards Electric House from Regal cinema till such time the rubble is cleared. “It will take a couple of days more to clear the debris and complete the cooling operation. So, to avoid risk, the route will remain closed for vehicular movements,” said a senior fire official.
