The mega-blocks were scheduled between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and Panvel from 11.21 am to 3.53 pm and between CST and Vashi from 9.52 am to 2.32 pm. Other than the block burst, services were further delayed when a signal failure at Vadala at around 4.30 pm caused trains in all directions to come to a standstill.
This is the second time that the signal at Raoli junction located near Vadala failed. On June 1, the Raoli junction signal failure caused more than 50 trains to be cancelled.
Confirming the block burts, CR public relations officer A.K. Singh said, “The block burst was only for 20 minutes and services were normalised once the trains started.”
But commuters had a different story to tell. Annapurni Hariharan (25), who works in a BPO, said that she was stuck at Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) station. “I was stuck for 40 minutes from 4.15 pm to 5.05 pm. After half-an-hour of waiting, an announcement was made but by then the rush had begun to spill over from the platform. I was going visit my family at Vashi,” said Ms Hariharan.
The Harbour line is the only line that does not have an alternate line on which trains can be diverted.
