To keep a check on corporators who remain absent for house meetings, some of them have demanded that there should be attendance for them too in the civic body.
Raising the issue in the civic standing committee, BJP group leader Manoj Kotak said that attendance system should also be made compulsory for corporators too. “There are some corporators, who visit the BMC only for the sake of registering their attendance. Then after, they disappear from the civic body. Some of the corporators do not even visit the civic headquarters. There is a need to make attendance system compulsory for corporators,” said Mr Kotak.
Shiv Sena corporator Trishna Vishwasrao demanded that close circuit television (CCTV) sets be installed in the BMC house. This would restrain the improper behaviour of some of the corporators, he added.
The Asian Age, in its report on March 9, reported that more than half of biometric machines installed in municipal offices to mark attendance are not working, leaving the attendance system open for manipulation. At most of the places, these machines have been tampered by employees only so that their attendance is not registered.
The proposal to install the new system on pilot basis at B ward office and Nair Hospital was passed in the standing committee on Wednesday. In this, 110 biometric machines will be procured at the cost of Rs 15.66 lakh.
