Bhumata Brigade threatens to blacken farm group MD’s face

Demanding justice for thousands of women workers who were not given work in the Maharashtra State Farming Corporation (MSFC), Pune, the Bhumata Brigade has announced a massive morcha on March 29.

Speaking during a press meet in Pune on Saturday, Bhumata Brigade president Trupti Desai warned that they would blacken the face of the managing director and make him wear bangles after the agitation if he failed to honour the agreement made earlier. “The morcha will comprise about 1,500 displaced women and about 500 men. The morcha will begin from Chaturshringi Temple at 1pm and march to the MSFC office, about two km away. We hope that the MD will take a decision by the time we reach the office or we will be forced to blacken his face and make him wear bangles,” said Ms Desai.

She also urged the revenue minister to take action in the matter. “If he fails, we will not allow him to move around. We women will block his way,” she warned. She also said that thousands of women, who worked in various MSFC farms, had not been given any bonus. Ms Desai demanded action against some persons, who threatened them in Trimbakeshwar in Nashik district on Friday. “On Friday, we went peacefully to Trimbakeshwar Temple and took darshan. We did not break any law and neither did we try to enter the sanctum,” she said.

“Whenever we try to take darshan through democratic means, we are detained. In Trimbakeshwar, we were mobbed by scores of persons, who threatened us against coming again or they would break our bones. Why were cases not filed against them The chief minister is also the home minister and should take action or we will gherao him on this issue,” said Ms Desai.
