Former deputy chief minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Chhagan Bhujbal and his son Pankaj Bhujbal have approached the Bombay high court seeking relief in the money laundering case registered against them. Chhagan Bhujbal has approached the high court seeking bail on medical ground while his son Pankaj is seeking cancellation of Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) issued against him in the same case.
The special Prevention of Money Laundering Act court judge P.R. Bhavake had last week rejected Chhagan Bhujbal’s bail application. He had filed the application on medical grounds listing more than 10 diseases he is suffering from and claiming proper medical treatment could not be provided to him in prison, which could worsen his health condition.
On the other hand, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) counsel Poornima Kantharia had opposed the bail plea saying the prison authorities are providing appropriate medical care to Bhujbal and and there is no need to grant him bail.
Accepting the ED’s submissions, the court had rejected Bhujbal’s bail application and he has now approached the high court seeking release on bail on same grounds. Similarly, his son Pankaj Bhujbal has also approached the high court after the Supreme Court refused to grant stay on the NBW issued against him.
