Beware of bogus friends: CM Devendra Fadnavis

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday asked the BJP workers to be wary of people who approach them as friends or relatives with intention to get some work done.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday asked the BJP workers to be wary of people who approach them as friends or relatives with intention to get some work done. Addressing the party functionaries on the second day of the state executive meeting in Pune, Mr Fadnavis said that these are “bogus” people who will not even recognise BJP functionaries when the party is not in power. Union minister Nitin Gadkari also asked the party functionaries to work for the party and not lobby for ministerial berths.

Interestingly, former Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse and BJP state chief Raosaheb Danve were seated on the dais as the two senior BJP leaders spoke. Mr Khadse resigned recently after allegations of corruption against him while Mr Danve supported and gave a clean chit to him.

“Many of you have seen our government during 1995-99. Now we have come back to power after 15 years. Those who have seen both the governments have experienced this that many people become our friends and relatives after we come to power. They come to use for getting their work done. And BJP workers are so sensitive that they think it is their national duty to help these people. You must know that this is not your work. Those people did not recognise you when you were not in power. They will not recognise you when your party is not in power. So do not waste your time and energy with them,” Mr Fadnavis said.

Mr Gadkari appealed to the party workers to devote themselves to organisational work and the national cause. “Those who crave for position of power are driven by insatiable ambition and they remain unhappy. Ministership and the pomp and power that come with it do not last long. Senior party functionaries should demonstrate ethical behaviour to set an example for new workers,” he said.

“Party workers... should go to the grassroots level and make people aware of the work done by Modi government in various sectors,” he added.

BJP spokesperson Madhav Bhandari later said political resolutions congratulating Shiv Sena for completing 50 years as well as the BJP governments in Centre and at state for their remarkable work in the last two years were passed during the meeting.
