A 54-year-old woman was arrested by the Bangur Nagar police for killing her 31-year-old son allegedly because he was opposed to her friendship with their driver.

Two other accused, the driver and a friend, are on the run.

The woman Cecilia D’Souza was produced in the local court on Friday and was remanded in police custody till December 17.

Earlier, on Tuesday night Ronald D’Souza (31) was reportedly found in a pool of blood at his house in the Malad area with stab injuries on his chest and leg. He was stabbed at least six times.

Police said earlier it was told that Ronald’s mobile and a gold chain worth '1 lakh had gone missing, leading them to believe robbery was the motive for murder. Later it was discovered that no chain was missing and that it was a well-planned murder.

According to police officials, footage from the CCTV installed in the building helped them make the arrest.

During questioning Cecilia had told the police that she had gone out for a walk and when she returned home had found the body of her son lying in a pool of blood after which she called the police.

However, on the CCTV footage, the accused Cecilia was seen having a brief conversation with a person identified as her driver before going out. The watchman in the building also informed the police that Cecilia’s driver with another person had entered the premises.

The police said Ronald used to work as a technician in an oilrig in Dubai and used to visit home at regular intervals. He had came to the city on November 21 and was supposed to return to Dubai on December 28. Ronald was divorced three years ago. Cecilia also has a 26-year-old daughter who works as a member of a cabin crew in a leading airlines company and was flying to Dubai.

Cecilia’s husband had died earlier in the year after being bedridden for some time. In the meantime, Cecilia had befriended a person whom she later appointed as her driver.

Sources said Ronald and his sister were opposed to her friendship with the driver, which led to quarrels. The police is also verifying the bank statement of Cecilia to check if any transaction took place after the murder.
