Forest officials at around 6 am on Saturday successfully trapped an approximately five-month-old leopard from Kandipada, a hamlet in Dahanu.
The baby leopard, did not harm the family in any way but was found inside the home of local, Sonu Thakkar, who noticed the big cat and immediately informed forest officials about it. After due examination, the leopard will be released in its natural habitat.
One of the locals from the village said, “The leopard sat quietly in a room next to which the family slept. When Mr Thakur entered the room, he noticed the leopard.”
Deputy conservator of forests (DCF) N.S. Ladkat, Dahanu forest division, said, “Kandipada, a tribal hamlet, is based in the wild. The baby leopard may not have been able to return to where it came from in the night.
It was absolutely harmless and was comfortably trapped by the team.” “We will keep him under observation for three days after which he will be released into the forest,” Mr Ladkat further said.
