A man went to the extent of killing his 25-day-old daughter in Vasai to teach his estranged first wife a lesson. Police sources said that at first, the accused pretended that his daughter had been kidnapped but later, her body was found from a local well. The police arrested the accused on Friday with the help of a pillow cover in which the body of the little girl was wrapped.
The accused, one Nikhil Chavhan (30), is an auto driver by profession and a resident of Santi Nagar in Valiv area of Vasai. Chavhan married one Vimal Chavhan only to be separated from her later. Vimal has a five-year-old son from Chavhan and would often demand maintenance from Chavhan for her son and herself.
From his second wife, Chavhan has a two-year-old son and 25-days-old daughter (deceased).
At midnight on Thursday, Chavhan approached Valiv police and filed a case saying his daughter had been kidnapped from their house. In his statement, Chavhan said he doubted his first wife and believed she had kidnapped his daughter.
Immediately, police officials started inquiring about Vimal but could not find any clues. Suddenly, on Friday afternoon, the body of the 25-day-old girl was recovered from a local well. It was wrapped in a pillow cover. Officials visited Chavhan and inquired about the pillow cover but he said he had nothing to do with it.
Officials then asked Chavhan’s second wife, who immediately recognised it and showed them a twin cover from the set. After verifying that the pillow cover belonged to Chavhan’s house, officials detained him.
During questioning, he admitted to the crime. Chavhan said that Vimal was demanding maintenance and alimony from him and had filed a case which Chavhan was going to lose, which is why he decided to frame Vimal to get rid of her.
He had kidnapped his own daughter while his second wife was asleep and threw her into the well. The police has booked him under sections of the Indian Penal Code for murder and kidnapping.
