Television actor Pratyusha Banerjee’s aunt, Barnali Banerjee, informed police officials of Bangur Nagar police station on Saturday that Pratyusha had visited her house in Ambernath in February this year and informed her about Rahul torturing her. Ms Barnali further told the police that Pratyusha had even shown her a few injury marks on her thighs and told her that Rahul had badly beaten her up. Bangur Nagar police is investigating the Pratyusha suicide case.
Ms Barnali told police officials that she had at the time advised Pratyusha to leave Rahul. Pratyusha used to often inform her on phone that her life had become difficult. A property agent, Viresh, in his statement, said that Pratyusha had been in touch with him about flats to stay ever since she came to Mumbai. According to Mr Viresh, Pratyusha never had any monetary problems and never asked anyone for financial help. Jitendra, an actor from Jamshedpur and family friend of Pratyusha, in his statement informed that Pratyusha looked upset for the past few months.
Renu Singh, Pratyusha’s domestic help, who quit working with her 45 days before the actor’s death, blamed Rahul for Pratyusha’s death while speaking to The Asian Age. Ms Singh said Rahul used to beat Pratyusha every day so much so that loud noises were heard often from their house. Pratyusha had sustained several injuries and used to show them to Ms Singh in Rahul’s absence. Ms Singh said all of Pratyusha’s credit and debit cards were kept by Rahul and she had to depend on him for an amount as little as Rs 500. The former maid claimed that Rahul never liked that Pratyusha’s parents came to their house and this led to several fights between them. Pratyusha’s ex-driver Raj Bariya also said that Rahul used to trouble Pratyusha a lot.
Also, Rahul’s ex-girlfriend Saloni Sharma who had assaulted Pratyusha gave her statement on Saturday and said that she had hit the actress because she came between Rahul and her.
Shankar Benarjee, Pratyusha’s father told this newspaper, “It a cold blooded murder and I feel that Rahul sedated my daughter and hanged her.”
Dr. Santosh Gotal of Shri Sai hospital where Rahul has been admitted since April 3, told this newspaper, “He is still under observation, He is still in depression and not even washing, brushing or eating.”
