Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who was booked for allegedly assaulting a young woman in his housing society, speaking to the media on Friday claimed that the incident was “pre-planned” and it could have been a publicity stunt. Earlier on January 17, a woman filed a complaint at the Versova police station against the actor, claiming that he had “misbehaved” with her.

While speaking to the media, the actor claimed that he was busy with his film Raees and its production-related activities, so couldn’t comment on the complaint in time.

The Gangs of Wasseypur actor expressed scepticism regarding the authenticity of the video, which was shot by the woman, who claimed she was molested by the actor. Siddiqui claimed that when he saw the video which was shot by the woman, he realised it was shot after the FIR was lodged.

“It was a planned incident. These people used me to gain publicity, as being a celebrity I am a soft target for them,” said Siddiqui.

However, the woman who lodged a complaint with the police against Siddiqui rubbished his claims and said, “If he doesn’t know us, then why did he file a complaint against us.”

Soni Dandekar (55) while talking to The Asian Age said, “We were telling him for the past one year not to park his vehicle at the spot. On the day of the incident, a bike was parked there and my daughter Heena was clicking its picture; suddenly the actor and his bodyguards came and manhandled her.”

A senior officer from the Versova police station where the case has been filed refused to comment on the claims that the video was shot after the FIR, saying investigation in the case was on.

Siddiqui said he did not know the complainant as she was not a resident of the society.
