Arun Gawli seeks 30-day parole for wife’s surgery

Gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli has once again approached the Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court seeking a 30-day parole to take care of his wife during her surgery on October 25.

Gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli has once again approached the Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court seeking a 30-day parole to take care of his wife during her surgery on October 25.

Speaking to this newspaper, Gawli’s lawyer Mir Nagman Ali confirmed that they have approached the court again seeking parole. “Doctors treating Gawli’s wife for ovarian cysts have fixed October 25 as the operation date. However, she is required to get admitted in the hospital on October 22. Gawli is seeking 30-day parole to take care of his wife,” he said.

The high court had last month refused the parole plea to the former don observing that it was unclear whether his wife would need surgery at all. However, the bench had allowed Gawli to approach the court again if a date for the surgery was fixed.

Mr Ali pointed out, “The recent amendments seeking to tighten the state government rules for granting parole to convicts, whereby it was denied to convicts in heinous and serious cases including those related to rape and murder, will not apply to Gawli because the amendment was made in August this year.”
