Army recruit ends life at hospital
An army recruit on Saturday committed suicide at naval hospital INHS Asvini. According to sources, he had been suffering for long from stomach problems, due of which he slipped into depression. He was brought to INHS Asvini after he complained of stomach pain. Sources said no suicide note was recovered from the spot. The matter is being investigated further.
On Saturday at around 8.30 am, the victim, Jasbir Singh (22), was found hanging from the ceiling in an empty room at INHS Asvini. Doctors immediately rushed to the spot and checked Mr Singh, after which civil police was informed. The body of the deceased was sent to St. George Hospital for an autopsy. Cuffe Parade police is now probing into the case for possible suicide.
The hospital informed army authorities and an inquiry into the incident has been ordered as is mandatory in such cases as per defence forces’ rules.
According to a senior official from the Army, the recruit belongs to RT regiment Nashik Road and from Artillery Centre of Nashik. He was admitted to the hospital yesterday for chronic stomach ailment.
The jawan hails from Punjab and his family has been informed. According to a senior doctor from INHS Asvini, Singh, a sardar, used his turban to hang himself in the empty room.
Earlier, on September 25 2014, a sailor of the Indian Navy, Gurucharan Singh, committed suicide onboard the INS Deepak. Gurcharan Singh was working in the Indian Western Naval Command.
A suicide note was recovered near the body in which Gurcharan Singh held no one responsible for extreme step. In a similar incident last year, another sailor, 22-year-old Nitin Yadav, shot himself in the head with his service revolver on Naval ship INS Mysore. Yadav hailed from Haryana.
