Anti-terror school gets cabinet’s nod

The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to set up counter insurgency and anti-terrorist (CIAT) school at Surabuldi, Nagpur.

The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to set up counter insurgency and anti-terrorist (CIAT) school at Surabuldi, Nagpur. State policemen will be trained in counter militancy and left-wing extremism at CIAT schools, are intended to provide special training to police and other security forces for combating efficiently insurgency and terrorism, for which the existing training institutes for tackling such menaces were inadequate.

“This will provide state-of-the-art training facilities to the police department for jungle and field tactics, map reading, ambush and handling of different weapons. The Centre and the state government will jointly contribute funds for this school. The state Cabinet has also sanctioned creation of various posts for this school,” a government official said.

Apart from the monetary help, the Centre would also bear recurring expenditure towards honorarium to be paid to the trainers. The land would be provided by the state governments. The state will also provide administrative support for running the CIAT schools and necessary training equipments like weapons, supporting manpower etc.
