A day after the death of a traffic policeman who was assaulted by helmetless bikers, a policeman from Kurla police station on Thursday was hit by a motorcycle when its rider, also helmet-less, attempted to flee when asked to stop.
According to the police, the helmetless bike rider allegedly knocked down the policeman when the latter tried to intercept him. Constable Devidas Anil Nimbalkar (45), who is attached to V.B. Nagar police station, was hospitalised with injuries to his left knee and released on Thursday night. He was out patrolling the area when he asked the motorcyclist to stop as the latter was riding his bike without a helmet. Instead of stopping, the motorcyclist tried to flee, hitting Mr Nimbalkar in the bargain. The accused was later nabbed by others on duty. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at Sakinaka Road near Jari Mari in Kurla (west) when Mr Nimbalkar was on nakabandi duty. “Mr Nimbalkar was on routine patrolling duty when he signalled to the biker who was riding helmetless to stop.
