The Azad Maidan police on Monday arrested three site engineers in connection with the '352 crore BMC road scam. Till now, 22 accused in the scam have been arrested.
On Tuesday, the accused arrested were identified as Dattatraya Sudan Dhas (26); Ashish Ramnath Jaiswal (27) of J. Kumar and K.R. Construction (JV); and Rishikesh Gajanan Shinde (23) also of J. Kumar-K.R. Construction.
Last week, the Mumbai police had arrested 10 auditors who were employees of two private engineering audit firms appointed by the BMC to inspect road works by contractors.
Arrests were made under charges of cheating and producing false documents. These arrests were carried out after the police investigated an FIR lodged by the BMC regarding a road construction scam.
Arrests were made late on Wednesday night and the arrested accused have been identified as Santosh Kadam (42), Ashfaque Mansoorali Sayyed (26), Milind Kumawat (26), Rakesh Merwade (34), Pawankumar Shukla (26), Premanand Dhanawade (37), Mangesh Talekar (33), Dheeraj Phuljhele (40), Rahul Shinde (29) and Dhairyasheel Patil (33). All arrested are from two auditing companies, namely SGS Consultancy and IRS (Indian Register of Shipping).
According to the investigators, the BMC on April 27 had registered an FIR against six contractors and two audit companies alleging criminal conspiracy and cheating.
