While the country has geared up to keep public places clean under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the Maharashtra government has made actor Amitabh Bachchan the brand ambassador for its iconic ‘Banega Swachh Bharat Mohim’. This drive is a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and will be launched by the state government in Mumbai on September 3.
The government has also urged Mumbaikars to participate in the Maha cleanathon organised jointly by Mr Bachchan and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The drive will be kick-started at the Keenath Hall at J.J. Hospital at 10 am on September 3.
Mumbai is set to benefit greatly from the Central Ministry of Urban Development’s Swachh Bharat Mission, as under this scheme the Centre plans to give the city Rs 400 crore, of which it will invest Rs 200 crore for solid waste management.
Various arms of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan have also popped up in the city.
In a bid to spread the message of Swachh Bharat and increase awareness, the Union ministry for urban development has tied up with the Mumbai dabbawallas, who have a large network in the city.
The dabbas (lunch boxes) will now have stickers with messages of cleanliness and sanitation.
On the other hand, in order to increase the number of public toilets in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to install 362 bio-toilets across the city at a cost of Rs 140.71 crore.
At present, there are only 10,381 public toilets for 1.3 crore citizens of the city.
