Air traveller assaults cop

A passenger, identified as Kishor Madhurkar, allegedly abused and beat up an immigration constable named Deepak Suresh Chavhan at the international airport. Following the attack, a case was registered against Madhurkar at Sahar Police station for attacking a government servant on duty. According to police sources, a search is on for the accused, as he is absconding, and he will be arrested soon.

The incident had occurred on Tuesday at about 9 am. When Madhurkar, who was coming from Paris, landed at the city airport in a Jet Airways flight. He later came to the immigration counter of terminal two to get his visa-passport stamped.

When Madhurkar reached the counter, Chavhan, who was on duty, stamped his documents. Later, when he reached the exit gate of the airport terminal building, a Central Industrial Security Force constable checked his documents only to find that the date that was stamped on them was wrong. So, Madhurkar was told to go to the immigration counter again to fix this. After listening to this, Kishor checked his documents and found that they had the stamp of February 28, instead of March 1 and this infuriated him.

He then went to the immigration counter and allegedly assaulted Chavhan, who was later sent to the hospital.

According to a senior immigration official, officers manually stamp documents, and an individual stamp contains several dates. As someone might have forgotten to change the date on the stamp, the wrong date was stamped on the documents. Recently a woman at the counter ended up with a stamp of the year 2026, which was caused by human error. According to a senior police official of the Sahar police station, Madhurkar is a chef in a five-star hotel and resides in Kalyan, but as of now the police is verifying these details.
