Earlier the pilots of the national airline had threatened to go on a strike after not getting their flying allowances and a deadline of May 10 was given to the airline by Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), in a letter dated May 5 which The Asian Age has an access).

After receiving the letter, AI management paid pending flying allowance dues to over 800 pilots. According to the airline sources, the new salary structure came into effect from January 1, 2016.

Earlier it was decided all allowance dues would be paid by May 5, 2016 and as the payment was not made on the same day, the association had written to the management. According to sources, as May and June are peak travel season, officials feared a strike could affect passengers, flights and fares.
