Ahead of the civic polls early next year, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday gave his nod to the elevated Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro 5 and Lokhandwala-Jogeshwari-Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg Metro
Ahead of the civic polls early next year, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday gave his nod to the elevated Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro 5 and Lokhandwala-Jogeshwari-Vikhroli-Kanjurmarg Metro 6 corridors, which are part of the plan for Metro connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
The 14.5-km-long Metro 6 corridor will have 13 stations and is pegged at Rs 6,672 crore while the 24-km-long Metro 5 corridor will have 17 stations and is pegged at Rs 8,416 crore. “After both these get approval from the state cabinet, tendering will be done and completion of the project will take another four years,” said Mr Fadnavis.
Launching a logo conceptualised for Mumbai Metro corridors, he said, “The Metro logo is in two colours — turquoise blue and dark blue. Turquoise blue has a refreshing, calming effect and represents efficiency and innovation. Dark blue spells responsibility, honesty and strong moral principles. These two clearly describe our commitment while we present various Mumbai Metro Corridors to the city and its metropolitan region.”
“It took eight years for the previous government to approve and construct a 9-km-long Metro corridor between Versova and Ghatkopar but we have ensured that the work on constructing Metro corridors is speedily executed as it is the dire need of the city,” he added.
