After 38 days, injured cop dies
After battling for life for 38 days, a 54-year-old head constable from Bandra police station succumbed on Wednesday morning to injuries sustained when an iron net fell on him during a BMC demolition drive in Khar market in Khar (west).
The deceased, Ajitkumar Shantaram Khavale, suffered the injury on January 9. The Khar police has now added section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of the IPC in the case it has registered in connection with the incident. Khavale was a resident of Mahim police quarters and his family comprises his wife and grown up sons. The incident occurred outside a dilapidated BMC structure. Several illegal hawkers had come up on the footpath surrounding the structure. While the BMC was demolishing a fruit stall in the region, they used a JCB crane. The crane was pulling out a plastic cover put above the illegal stall and while pulling it down, an iron net to which it was tied got pulled down along with it and fell on Khavale.
