A 25-year-old small time actress has been arrested under several stringent charges of the Indian Penal Code after she allegedly — under the influence of alcohol — got into an altercation with a couple of policemen who came knocking on her door during the early hours of Monday for playing loud music. The model will have to spend the night in the police station’s lock-up and will be produced in Andheri magistrate’s court on Tuesday. According to the Oshiwara police, at around 1.50 am, they received a complaint from a resident of Samarth Angan building in Lokhandwala that some person in their building was playing loud music. Acting on the complaint, a couple of policemen at around 2 am reached the residence of the accused, Anjum Nayar, who lives on the 20th floor of the building. Nayar was partying with her friends and playing loud music. When the police confronted her, an altercation took place. Senior police inspector, Nasir Pathan of Oshiwara police station said, “She was under the influence of alcohol. We have conducted a medical test on her. Furthermore, she used abusive language and tried to intimidate our policemen, even as they explained her that they were just doing their duty.” Nayar has been fined for playing loud music and has also been booked and arrested under Sections 294 (obscene acts and songs), 353 (deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
