ACB traps Class i officer for accepting bribe of Rs 2,000
The Thane unit of the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped a deputy charity commissioner in Thane (a Class I officer) for allegedly accepting a bribe. He has been placed under arrest and will be produced before a magistrate’s court on Wednesday.
The Thane ACB unit led by additional commissioner Dattatrey Karale arrested accused Manish Parshuram Pawar (37) a resident of Vrindavan, no. 12 bungalow in Kopri area of Thane. The complainant had approached the Class I officer recently because he wanted to start a trust and wanted to register it with the Charity commissioner’s office.
However, Pawar demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 to do his work. The 36-year-old complainant then quietly approached the Thane ACB unit last week. An ACB officer first verified his allegations and after found it to be true decided to lay a trap. A trap was laid around 4 pm on Tuesday and Pawar was caught red handed in his office in Tembhi naka area of Thane while taking the bribe. The bribe money Rs 2,000 has been recovered from him.
Pawar has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act. A team of ACB is presently carrying out a search at his residence to find out if he has amassed disproportionate assets to his known sources of income. Till October 2015 ACB has arrested around 67 Class I officers for allegedly accepting a bribe.
