ACB nabs Sr PI for accepting Rs 3 Lakh bribe
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) laid a trap and allegedly caught red-handed a senior police inspector with MHB police station of Borivali (west) while accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a complainant on Tuesday for not taking action against the illegal plot housing the complainant’s studio and the workers employed there. The ACB has initiated further inquiry into the source of money.
The bureau will now conduct a detailed evaluation of the accused, senior PI Subhash Krushna Chavan’s (58) assets, comparing them with his known sources of income to check whether there are enough grounds for registering a disproportionate assets case against him. Mr Chavan is posted with MHB police station in northern Mumbai
An ACB officer said, “The complainant has a studio in Borivali suburban which is illegal. He approached us alleging Mr Chavan was demanding '4 lakh in exchange for not taking action against the illegal plot. We verified his claims and then set about laying a trap. Mr Chavan was caught red-handed at the police station while accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh.”
Sources said, “Mr Chavan used to called the studio owner with his land document papers where he was shooting a TV soap. Mr Chavan knew the complainant was using the land illegally but did not take action against him. He is supposed to retire within the next few months because of which, he has started extorting money from several firms. Later, he called the complainant and asked him to give Rs 4 lakh in return for continuing to shoot on the plot.”
