ACB arrests ‘corrupt’ BMC public prosecutor
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a public prosecutor, who represented the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), for allegedly accepting bribe of '1 lakh from a developer.
Ujwala Kumbhar was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe nearby a bus stop close to Reliance Super Mall in Mumbai Central, said a statement issued by the ACB.
According to ACB sources, the developer had appealed in the session’s court after he was issued a notice by the civic body pertaining to his construction of a building at Masjid Bunder in South Mumbai. Ms Kumbhar allegedly demanded the bribe to ensure that the case went in favour of the developer.
“The complainant in the case is a developer. The BMC had issued a demolition notice to him,” said am ACB officer. Ms Kumbhar demanded a bribe for not making strong arguments against the developer,” said the officer.
“The developer approached us. We verified the case following which a trap was laid which she was caught while the money,” the officer added.
