AC local to reach Mumbai today

The air-conditioned local that was dispatched from Chennai on Friday will finally arrive in the city early morning on Tuesday.

The air-conditioned local that was dispatched from Chennai on Friday will finally arrive in the city early morning on Tuesday. Senior officials said that the train left Bhusaval at around 12 pm on Monday, was scheduled to stop at Igatpuri in the evening, and would reach the Kurla car shed in Mumbai at around 1 am on Tuesday.

The train has been fitted with equipment for Alternating Current (AC) and will undergo a trial run on Tuesday night as officials want to start ironing out the kinks as early as possible. “The trial run or dry run of the train will be done on Tuesday itself, between 2 am and 4 am when railway lines are shut for maintenance,” said an official.

The train was dispatched from Chennai on Friday, however, it was a day later than scheduled as the South Central Railway (SCR) had as many as 15 rakes to be dispatched to different railway zones.

“The trials will be conducted along with the Chief Railway Commissioners (CRS) who will be in the train to see its running. The speed of the train will be limited to around 50 to 60 kilometres per hour during the first few trials.

The train will run between Kalyan and Kasara as the topography there is one with sharp turns and steep inclines,” added the official.
