AAP questions NIA role in clean chit to accused

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday questioned the role of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in letting the Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya and five others off the hook.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday questioned the role of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in letting the Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya and five others off the hook. It further slammed the Narendra Modi government for shielding terrorists and insulting martyr Hemant Karkare after the chargesheet by NIA nullified his investigations terming it dubious. The NIA on Friday filed a chargesheet in a special NIA court in Mumbai against 10 and dropped Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and five others from the list of accused.

“We see a brazen attempt to tarnish the image of Shaheed Hemant Karkare who laid down his life for our country in the worst terrorist attack of 26/11 in Mumbai. The NIA is being used as a tool by the Hindutva groups to raise doubts on the investigation and let the accused go scot free,” the AAP said in its statement.

“It is suspicious that one agency (NIA) questions the actions of another investigation agency (ATS) which is unacceptable. The government is supporting the elements which are in a way propagating their agenda of dividing individuals,” said Preeti Sharma Menon, spokesperson, AAP.

The AAP questioned the NIA’s move of withdrawing the charges of the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the Malegaon blast accused.

“AAP is certain that this state will not forgive the BJP government for insulting its brave martyr and we commit ourselves to keeping Mr Karkare’s memory alive,” the statement of the AAP stated further.
