In another case of food poisoning, 87 students from a Zilla Parishad School in the Palghar district had to be rushed to the hospital after they complained of vomiting, nausea and headache after consuming the mid-day meal provided by the school on Thursday. The collector has ordered an inquiry into the incident and has asked for food samples to be checked.

According to Abhijit Bangar, collector, Palghar district, on Thursday the ZP school located at Kasa Budhruk in Vikramgadh taluka, consisting of 247 students served khichdi and chikki as part of the mid-day meal programme. However, soon after consuming the same, students started complaining of having a headache, nausea and started vomiting. Not wanting to take any risk, the teachers rushed all the students to a nearby government primary health centre. After initial treatment, around 160 students were discharged and 87 students were admitted to the Kasa Sub District Hospital.

“While some of the admitted students are under observation, the others will be discharged after their condition stabilises,” said Mr Bangar. Private doctors from Vikramgadh also pitched in to help the government doctors treat the affected students.

Mr Bangar further added that uneaten food samples have been taken and the samples have been sent for testing to the Thane government lab. He said that only after receiving the lab report would it be possible to know the exact cause of the condition of the students and police will take action against the guilty.
