8 trains cancelled, 40 delayed on Harbour line

The Harbour line saw a major disruption after a signal failure at Bandra shut down movement on the line for 45 minutes Tuesday morning.
The disruption was seen at 6.30 am when a signal failure in Bandra shut down the line between CST and Andheri. Officials said that as the trains were stuck for 45 minutes, it affected movement of all rakes on the Harbour known in railway parlance as ‘links’.
“As the trains were stalled at Bandra, they could not go towards CST or Andheri where they are converted to either Panvel/Belapur/Vashi locals. This is known as link in railway lingo. With the trains not reaching their destination on time, they could not be dispatched to other destinations, invariably triggering a delay of half an hour of trains going towards CST and Panvel,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
The number of cancellations remained at eight even though the disruption saw a cascading effect until almost 11 am. “There were only eight cancellations as according to a new policy we don’t cancel trains but run them late. The number of trains that were delayed was 40,” added the official.
Central Railway (CR) as well as Western Railway (WR) has been seeing disruptions for more than a month now; in fact Union minister Suresh Prabhu has sent down railway board officials from Delhi to sort out the matter but it has not yet been resolved.
