The government of Maharashtra on Friday informed the Bombay high court that in view of safety and security of doctors in government and civic-run hospitals, 56 security personnel would be deployed in eight hospitals.
Joint director of medical education and research Dr Prakash Wakode, filed an affidavit in the high court on Friday which stated that 56 security personnel would be appointed in four government run and four major municipal corporation hospitals in Mumbai. This would include police as well as the home guards. “The configuration of armed, unarmed and male, female security will be decided by the commissioner of Mumbai police, in view of requirements of the law and order situation,” stated the affidavit.
It was filed before the division bench of Justice A.S. Oka and A.A. Sayed further stated that these armed security guards would be constantly on the move patrolling all sensitive areas of the hospitals with particular attention to casualty, ICU and OPD areas.
The affidavit, however, also said that the implementation of this decision has not been taken yet but would be taken “at the earliest”.
The Maharashtra government also informed the court that it had written a letter to Maharashtra security corporation for performing a security audit. For this, the registration process has been completed. The corporation would start the security audit to access the need of security personnel in various government medical colleges and hospitals across the state.
