Five persons were injured, with two sustaining serious wounds, after a 70-year-old man allegedly drove his car rashly and rammed into them in Andheri (east) Saturday evening.

Five persons were injured, with two sustaining serious wounds, after a 70-year-old man allegedly drove his car rashly and rammed into them in Andheri (east) Saturday evening. The accused also suffered injuries and has been hospitalised as well.

According to the Andheri police, the incident occurred around 5.30 pm near Kantakunj building in front of Yamaha showroom in Teli Galli area of Andheri (east).

The senior citizen was identified as T. Chand, who was allegedly driving a Toyota Corolla in a rash and negligent manner.

The car was going at top speed and hit the five persons, besides ramming into a Wagon R near the footpath. Three of the five persons were from a family waiting for an autorickshaw while the other two were friends who were standing behind their Wagon R.

The victims have been identified as Geeta Dhanji Gupta (35), Dhanji Gupta (40), Shankar Dhanji Gupta (14), Vinay Pande (33) and his friend Dharmendra Subhashchandra Pande (33). The Guptas are residents of Marol area in Andheri.

“We have taken the blood samples of the accused to find out if he was under the influence of alcohol. He has been booked under sections 279, 338 of the Indian Penal Code. We will arrest the accused after he gets discharged,” said an inspector from the Andheri police station.
