Rains played havoc across the city for the second consecutive day, hitting the train movement. While water logging on the tracks near Palghar affected trains coming from Gujarat to Mumbai on the Western Railway, a signal failure in Mahim delayed 70 trains on the Central Railway’s harbour line by 15 to 30 minutes. Around eight trains were cancelled on the line.

Seven mail express trains — Saurashtra Express, Lokshakti Express, Avantika Express, Gujarat Mail, Ahmedabad-Mumbai Duranto, Aravali Express and Saurashtra-Janta Express — were delayed by three hours.

With the shuttle services between Dahanu-Virar shut, the WR let some of the outstation trains stop for more than the usual duration at each station on this route. Train services on Vasai-Diva-Panvel route too was hit, officials said.

Road services were also hit. The Maratha reservation protest between Kharghar and Belapur choked traffic on the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road, Western Express Highway, Santracruz-Kurla-Link-Road, Eastern freeway and Navi Mumbai’s Palm Beach Road.

Water logging was witnessed in many areas in South Mumbai as well as Mahim and Bandra-Kurla-Complex.
