As per the data recorded by the disaster management cell of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) it was one of the rare occasions when the city was spared an flooding and disruption.
The department recorded a total of 67mm of rainfall in the island city, 46mm of rainfall in the eastern suburbs, and 31mm of rainfall in the western suburbs on Saturday.
The Colaba station of the meteorological department recorded a total of 103mm of rainfall, as opposed to only 57 mm recorded by the suburbs.
The BMC confirmed that Mumbai did not see any traffic jams or bus route diversions. A civic official said, “No water logging was reported on Saturday. All the problematic spots, including Hindamata, Parel, and Dadar were clear with smooth sailing traffic.”
The official quoted above said the management of water logging was also easier during Saturday’s rainfall as the city did not record high tide. The maximum height of the tide was lower than 3.5m, recorded at 8 am on Saturday.
Meanwhile, train services on all the three lines were also not hampered. Mumbaikars can expect more rainfall in the next two days as the Mumbai division of the Indian Meteorological department has predicted light to moderate showers on Sunday and Monday as well. The city reported only 4 incidences of tree collapses, of which two were recorded in the city and one in the eastern suburbs. No injuries were reported.
