An FIR was registered against five BJP workers with the Dindoshi police in the Malad area on Thursday following a brawl among the party workers.

According to police sources, the case was registered following a complaint by one BJP worker.

Officials suspect internal party issues and inner politics is the reason behind the complaint. “No arrest has been made in the case,” a senior official from the Dindoshi police station said.

According to police sources, the five BJP party workers were booked by the Dindoshi police after they assaulted and threatened a fellow party worker Sandeep Upadhyay (36) on Thursday.

Police officials said there was a Whatsapp group of party workers that was active in the Malad area and the complainant Mr Upadhyay had left the group. Following the incident on late Thursday night, the accused followed Mr Upadhyay and caught him on a street in the Dindoshi area. They then pushed him into an empty auto stationed there, said the police.

They assaulted Mr Upadhyay in the auto, abused him and pointed a revolver at him to threaten him. Two of the accused have been identified as Sachin Pandhale and Pramod Yadav. The other three are yet to be identified, said the police.

According to sources, Mr Upadhayay suffered few injuries following the incident and was taken to a local hospital where he was treated.

Preliminary investigation by the police has revealed that Mr Upadhay was not happy with the internal designation and posting he was holding in the party and wanted a change. In order to express his discontent, he quit the Whatsapp group, and the angry co-party workers then attacked him.
