The four corporators who surrendered before the Kasarvadavli police station in Thane city on Saturday have been arrested and remanded to police custody for further probe. They were booked for allegedly abetting suicide of developer Suraj Parmar and alleged criminal misconduct The four: Vikrant Chavan (Congress), Najib Mulla, Hanumant Jagdale (both NCP), and Sudhakar Chavan (Independent), surrendered on the instructions of Bombay high court, which refused their pleas for pre-arrest bail earlier this week.

ACP Dileep R. Gore of the Vartak Nagar division, who is investigating the case, confirmed that the four have been remanded by a magistrate’s court to police custody till December 14 for further probe.

The four accused had knocked on the high court’s door after a sessions court in Thane city refused to give them anticipatory bail earlier this year. On October 7, Parmar committed suicide by shooting himself with his licensed firearm. He left behind a 13-page suicide note in which he mentioned the names of these corporators, who, he said, “made his life hell”.

He mentioned how a well-oiled nexus between TMC, PWD and these four elected representatives used arm-twisting tactics to make him cough up more and more money.
