The gang allegedly burned the woman’s body, stuffed it in a suitcase and then dumped it in Vangaon jungle in Dahanu.The quartet were produced before the Vasai court on Friday and has been remanded in police custody till May 26.
The victim Kavita Kothare (27) a resident of Kishore Kunj,Virar (west), worked in a network marketing firm Ratnam Infotech Pvt Ltd. She had promised the main accused Kumar Mohit Bhagat of double returns if he invested Rs 17,000.
Bhagat paid the amount to Kothare in late 2014, but she did not return the amount, said API Sandeep Shivle of Arnala police station. Kothare was staying with her parents after she had separated from her husband Ashok a few years ago. Since then, she had adopted fraudulent means to make money, the police.
On Sunday, Bhagat allegedly kidnapped Kothare and on Wednesday her body was found in a charred state and stuffed in a suitcase in Sakra Ghat area in Vangaon near Dahanu. On Monday, her father Kisanlal, who works for a jeweller, registered a missing complaint with the Arnala police station.
The same day Kisanlal received a ransom call from Bhagat demanding Rs 30 lakh and 3 kg of gold in return for Kothare, said API Shivle. “We nabbed Bhagat who runs a placement agency and through him we arrested his three accomplices, Shiva Sharma, a driver, Ram Avtar, who is unemployed, and a woman Yuvita Sarvanand who resides in Global City, Virar,” said Mr Shivle.
