4 arrested for attempting to kidnap merchant

Following a tip-off, officials laid a trap at Kulupwadi junction, Borivali (east), at around 12 pm on Monday and arrested two accused, who directed them to two other accused. The third and fourth accused were arrested from Pathanwadi area of Malad and Bharat compound of Kashimira area, respectively. Two more accused in the case are still at large.
The kidnapping attempt occurred at Devki Nagar Junction area, Link Road, Borivali west, at about 8.15 am on March 16. A diamond merchant left his house in Chikuwadi, Borivali (west), for his diamond polishing factory at Dahisar west, in his Honda City car. Suddenly, a Wagon R car overtook the Honda City and made it stop even as two people rammed it and threatened the diamond merchant. DCP Mohan Dahikar said that the gang attacked the businessman with the aim of kidnapping him as they wanted a ransom of Rs 5 crore from him. However, the merchant fought hard with the attackers. At the time of the incident, four other accused were following the businessman’s car. Suddenly, there was a signal on the way, taking advantage of which the diamond merchant jumped from his car. However the accused managed to snatch his gold chain and mobile.
The accused have been identified as Mukesh Parmar (40), Boss Narayan Pandey (31), Kejul Rasik Morbiya (24) and Ramesh Patre (38). Pandey is a wanted accused as he had allegedly robbed and killed a senior citizen in Borivali while Morabiya had allegedly robbed one businessman in Gujarat.
Parmar used to work with the businessman previously. The four accused have been booked under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC. They will be produced in court on Tuesday.
