Security will be top priority during the ensuing Simhasth Kumbh Mela in Nashik and thousands of police from other parts of the state will be deployed to provide security. The administration has divided the key areas into sectors with one officer in charge of each.

The first batch of 3,600 policepersons from Marol, Latur, Khandala, Sangli, Nagpur and Solapur have arrived in Nashik, according to ACP Sachin Gore.

The Nashik police has sent a requirement of 15,000 policemen to maintain security for the approximate one crore devotees who are expected to attend the parvani shahi snan. The first batch of police persons include 1,300 women. About 1,000 personnel from the National Disaster Rescue force (NDRF) will also arrive shortly.

All the newly-arrived policemen will be shown the Shahi Marg and the eight roads leading towards the city and will be asked to study them on Wednesday. They will be briefed about their points and will work under a route incharge. The concerned policemen will remain at their posts during the duration of the Simhasth Kumbh Mela.

The police will also use rope barricades to control the surging crowds on various routes during the parvani days. A group of senior officials, including mela officer Raghunath Gawade, municipal deputy commissioner Rohidas Dorkulkar, state transport divisional controller Yamini Joshi, district health officer Dr Sushil Waghchaure, ACP Sachin Gore and others visited Rajmundri in Andhra Pradesh and studied the arrangements there.

Divisional revenue commissioner Eknath Dawale said the sector incharge would include capable women officials. These deputy collector rank officials will have to bear full responsibility for their sectors. Their responsibility will include Tapowan, Ramkund, Sadhugram, new ghats, crowd control disaster management, among others. He warned the officials that they would be fully responsible and stated that no excuses would be entertained.
