After a wait of nearly seven years, 334 school teachers from government-recognised private aided schools across the state who had not got their salaries will be paid from 2009 onwards. A teachers’ organisation that had been following up the issue with the help of MLC Kapil Patil said it was a major relief for teachers. The announcement to start paying the salaries was made by the director of secondary education on Thursday.
Ashok Belsare, chairman of Shikshak Bharati, said that 261 full-time and 73 part-time teachers from 2002-03 to 2010-11 had received approval from the government.
He said that Shikshak Bharati took up the issue with the government and Mr Patil had also raised the issue in the Vidhan Parishad, highlighting the plight of the teachers.
“Many teachers were on the verge of quitting, but the announcement has given them hope,” said Mr Belsare.
On Thursday the office of the director, secondary and higher secondary education, issued instructions to the education department to add the 334 teachers on the payroll and start paying them salaries.
“The date from which the salaries are to be paid is yet to be ascertained and the same will be done after checking the date on which the teachers were given the approval,” said an official from the school education department.
